St Nicholas are looking forward to life in women's senior football next season after their Under-16 side won the double for the second season running.

They topped their division in the Gloucestershire County Girls League, retaining the cup in the process, and are set to start the next campaign in Division Two of the Gloucestershire County Women's League.

The side's top scorer was 32-goal Megan Bloomer – daughter of former Bristol Rovers player Bob Bloomer – and they gave little away at the back, conceding only nine goals in their 16 league outings.

St Nick's also gave a good account of themselves in the Tesco Cup. Last season they finished national runners-up at Leicester City's Walker Stadium.

This time they again got as far as representing Gloucestershire, but failed to progress from a group that included county cup winners from Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Somerset and Herefordshire.

Manager John Seymour said: "The girls' side of the club has had a good season. The Under-10s won their division in the Bristol Girls League, the Under-12s won theirs in the Gloucestershire County Girls League and the Under-11s also have a chance of winning their league too.

"We will have a young side in the County League next season – most of the girls are 16 or 17 – but three over-age ones who left us and joined Keynsham will be coming back to us because they enjoy it at the club so much.

"Our aim now is to progress as far as we can."

Keynsham Town's injury-ravaged run-in to the end of the season took a turn for the worse as they went down 3-2 at home to Charlton in the Southern Division of the FA Premier League – and saw Tanja Andjelkovic join their casualty list.

Harley Bennett and Ellie Stenning scored the Londoners' goals with Ashley Reinecke and Aimee Clark on target for Keynsham.
