Splitters beat long term Bristol rivals
Splitters are a tournament team made up of players from various teams across all divisions in the Bristol League, with the aim to play well, have fun and hopefully win.
Last weekend, June 6 and 7, Splitters entered the second of the Diamond Softball tournament series in Slough.
Having moved up from C to B grade this year, this was the team's second tournament at this level.
They were confronted with a weekend of rain, thunder, sun, rain and mud. Ignoring the elements Splitters improved on their result from Diamond 1 within the first day, beating their long term rivals – The Bristol Creamers – causing the ladies to break into song, or as Splitters team member Amanda Summers said: "Well, it was more like a bunch of humming birds as no one could remember the lyrics."
The thunder storm Sunday morning drove the opposition into hiding for the first game of the day, resulting in another win, without having to get covered in mud from the bog that was once first base.
The fun continued with the captain, Pete Saunders, leading them to the wrong pitch for their next game, resulting in a last minute mad dash of tents, trolleys, coolers and chairs across the pitches - witnessed by the bemused opposition.
In the last innings of the last game of the day, Splitters made a valiant 10 run innings giving them a respectable and enjoyable end to yet another brilliant softball playing weekend.
