A touch of Hollywood will come to Stoke Bishop this month to help fund the refurbishment of a 150-year-old church.

St Mary Magdalene Church, in Mariners Drive, will be screening the musical Singin' In The Rain at a gala film night.

People are encouraged to come dressed as if for a Hollywood premiere – echoing the theme of the film – to raise funds for Beyond 150, a church refurbishment project.

Phase two of the project is to rebuild the church rooms, offering better facilities to serve the entire community of Stoke Bishop and make the church available for use seven days a week.

On Saturday, November 28, there will be flowers and a red carpet, music played on the church organ and the opportunity for people to purchase a professional souvenir photograph of themselves.

Nikki Myland, spokeswoman for Beyond 150, said: "It is the perfect film for a glitzy evening out."

Tickets are £12, students £5. Doors open at 7.30pm. To buy tickets, call the church office on 01179 687449.
