Speedster Samoan Lemi is 'one of a kind', says Bristol's Blowers
ANDREW BLOWERS has hailed flying Bristol winger David Lemi as "one of a kind".
The Samoan speedster scored a remarkable solo try as Bristol went down 33-20 at home to Bath on the opening day of the Guinness Premiership season last weekend.
And veteran former New Zealand back-rower Blowers, pictured left, expects more excitement from the 26-year-old as the season goes on.
Bristol head to Harlequins today looking to register their first points of the new Premiership campaign – and Blowers is confident that Lemi and his fellow pacy backs can wreak havoc if they are given enough quick ball.
"The Rocket Man, Lemi, is one of a kind," said Blowers.
"You give him the ball and you've got a big chance of at least breaking the line.
"We have seen him carve up defences in the sevens – and he can do exactly the same in fifteens.
"So one of the focuses for us is to get our ball runners like Dave and the Arscott brothers plenty of ball – and then watch them go. We are looking forward to seeing him again on Saturday."
And Blowers says that despite his excellent try-scoring feats on the field – Lemi has now crossed 34 times in 62 appearances for Bristol – the Samoan remains as humble and hard-working as ever.
"Playing with Dave here is fantastic," said Blowers. "He's the quiet assassin – he just gets on with his work.
"And he is a humble man – he was brought up in Samoa and they teach you good manners there! He's a good man on and off the field."
Blowers scored the early try that gave Bristol the lead against Bath last weekend. And even though his team later fell away to concede three tries against a hugely impressive Bath team, the 33-year-old is confident they can put things right at the Twickenham Stoop this afternoon.
"You have 24 hours after the game to celebrate a win or reflect on a defeat – and then you bury it and move on," said Blowers.
"We have focused on the things we needed to work on going into Harlequins – and we are confident. In this game, you have to be confident that you can bounce back from a loss.
"We know we played a good team last weekend – and we had our opportunities.
"We didn't take ours, they took theirs, and there is a fine line between winning and losing. But we are confident going into this weekend."
Neil Brew comes in for the injured Junior Fatialofa at inside centre, while head coach Richard Hill has shuffled his back five forwards.
Blowers switches to No 8, with Dan Ward-Smith dropping to the bench, Nathan Budgett moves from the second row to the blindside flank and Mariano Sambucetti coming in at lock.
Harlequins are without All Blacks fly-half Nick Evans, who suffered a knee injury against Saracens last weekend. His place goes to Fiji No 10 Waisea Luveniyali.
