Sparks and Tuck lead the way at Lulsgate
British sidecar trial champions Jon Tuck and Matt Sparks were in sparkling form in the fifth round of the current series, staged by the Wessex Centre branch of the BSSA at Lulsgate on Sunday.
Through 36 difficult sections in Scarrs Wood and Filers Wood, they lost 28 marks less than father and son combination Robin and Sam Luscombe.
Previous round winners Kevin Nolan and David Dale were third, ahead of Lee Granby and Jamie Howe, who sustained two punctures in the first seven sections in Scarrs Wood.
The first sections at Filers were severe, with Tuck and Sparks incurring maximum mark penalties in two areas. However, they outshone their rivals in their second visit to Scarrs in the six-hour event.
Plymouth speedway heat leader Seemond Stephens and Gary Davey were easy winners of the Intermediate Class.
Cornwall all-rounder Gareth Andrew and his passenger Keith Morcom won the Clubman Class after a close battle with four other crews.
With ideal conditions at Westonzoyland, near Bridgwater, a new course record was set by Isle of Man competitors Paul Hodgson in the Racing Class in the NSA's Quarter Mile Twin Lane Sprint meeting over the weekend.
His terminal speed of 152mph was matched by Kevin Parnell in the Unlimited Class but the latter had a slower time.
Four of the 50 competitors in the Taunton club's Summer Series trial at Kingston St Mary retained clean sheets in three laps of 16 sections at Tanyard.
