South West Variety Club replaces school's old minibus
THE VARIETY Club is calling on organisations to get in touch if they need a replacement Sunshine Coach.
The chair of the charity's South West branch, Anne Keen-Arnold, wants to remind any schools or care centres in Bristol that if their coach is getting old, they can apply for a new one.
The charity, which helps sick, disabled and disadvantaged children, has decided to use its next few events to raise money to replace an old bus at Brimsham Green School in Yate.
Among the secondary school's students are 20 physically disabled youngsters, who use the minibus for school trips and to go to Yate swimming pool for hydrotherapy.
The school has had their current Sunshine Coach since 1995, and a relative of Mrs Keen-Arnold noticed it was rusting and so suggested they order a new one.
Mrs Keen-Arnold said: "The school has at least six children in wheelchairs and they need a coach with a lift at the back, and the one they have is getting a bit old. They didn't seem to realise that they could get another one.
A new coach will cost more than £30,000 and the school hopes some of the money will be offered by South Gloucestershire Council.
Head teacher Alun Williams said: "We are delighted with the offer. Our bus is a real worry – recently it broke down on a trip in central London. It is great to have support to raise the money to replace it.
The charity is holding an 'Allo 'Allo! themed event at the Cadbury House Hotel on November 8, comprising a three course meal and entertainment.
Tickets are available by calling 01454 612276.
