Stoke Lodge Primary School received the bin after entering a competition run by gritting and snow clearance company GRITIT.

The company gave away £50,000 of grit bins filled with salt to UK schools on the first-come, first-served basis.
The school’s head teacher Richard Clark said: “We do have our own grit bins on site, but it was good to know we could receive another free one and the free grit also – something we would usually have to pay for out of school funds.

“The school always tries to remain open during bad weather, so we truly believe this is a fantastic initiative and certainly believe that GRITIT’s support helped us to remain open during the last period of bad weather.
“The safety of the pupils is always the main concern, but I truly believe there is an onus on schools to be prepared for severe winter weather.”
