Sort him out don't just make excuses
WHILST we cannot name or otherwise identify the 14-year-old criminal from Southmead we feel it absolutely crucial that we publicise his offences. For every time he commits a crime he shows his contempt for other people, yet magistrates want his identity kept secret because they say he is "vulnerable". It is enough to make a cat laugh.
The time has long passed for courts and magistrates to stop making excuses and put themselves in the position of people who are victims of this teenager's behaviour.
Because as things stand at present we believe he is making fools of those who are supposed to be imposing the law. He certainly has extreme behavioural issues that need attention.
He needs to learn respect for others and for their property and importantly for the law.

But if, as seems very likely, he commits further crimes and if courts continue to treat him with kid gloves they will simply be helping to keep him on a road that will lead to very serious offences.
This youngster needs sorting out before he becomes that hardened criminal and before he develops into a more dangerous threat to decent law-abiding citizens.
He already has a criminal record long enough to last a lifetime.
