Sophie Voller absolutely smashed her personal best to finish top local woman in the Flora London Marathon.

The 31-year-old Westbury Harrier carved 21 minutes off the mark she set in the capital on her debut last year with a time of 3:09.26 to finish 106th in Sunday's race.

"I am a bit sore today but very happy," said Voller. "I'm so pleased with the time. I had three targets which I kept to myself but the top one was to break 3hrs 10mins and I did that and it is a very nice feeling."

Clubmate Catherine Dulla also set a PB of 3:12.10 to finish 142nd and third local women just behind Bristol & West's Julia Belyavin.

Portishead Running Club's Laura Crocker clocked a creditable 3:15.45, while Thornbury Running Club's Margaret McLachlan also dipped under 3hrs 20mins.

Andrew Harrison topped the local rankings in the Flora London Marathon as he raced to a new personal best.

The 44-year-old Bristol University engineering lecturer clipped 1mins 20secs off his 2007 best, also set in London, with a time of 2hrs 37mins 15secs for 130th position overall.

"It was a big PB by over a minute so I was very pleased with that," said Harrison.

"I wasn't really expecting it as you never know what is going to happen in the marathon, but it all went well on the day."

Harrison finished just ahead of Westbury Harriers' Rod Jones, who ran his PB of 2:18.34 in London nine years ago, while GWR's Jonathan Hanley clocked 2:40.32.

Jason Williams was Clevedon AC's leading man with 2:40.39, while Nigel Leighton and Kevin Minty were the top men for Bristol & West AC and Weston AC respectively.

● Bristol & West AC's Tony Hillier continued his return to competition after a break from the sport with a superb personal best of 4.60m to win the pole vault at the Bath Open meeting staged at the university.

Cameron Walker-Sheppard cleared 4.30, while Luke Bailey achieved 3.80m.

A fierce headwind slowed sprint times as Ben Coghlan won the 100m and was runner-up in the 200m.

Steve Mitchell ran away with the 1,500m and was third in the 800m, while in the 3,000m there were good runs from Clevedon veteran Julian Emery and Bristol's Claire Hallissey.

● In the opening Avon Track & Field League meeting, the Yate Under-20 men's quartet of Matt Craythorne, Gregg Halliwell, Matt Parker and Ian Goldsmith broke the 4 x 400 club record with a time of 3mins 56.6secs. There was a PB of 46.2secs for Lucy Atkins in the Under-17s 300m, while there were wins for Kelly Leat in the Under-15s 300m (46.4) and Kane Lee in the Under- 15s 800m (2:15.2).

In the pole vault, Bristol & West's Katherine Clayton added 30cms to her PB and Steve West set an outdoor PB of 3.40m. Martin Davies cleared a season's best of 3.21m to go top of the veterans' rankings. Cameron Walker-Sheppard won the competition with 4.50m.

From North Somerset AC, Francesca Allen set a new PB of 14.00secs in the Under-15 girls' 100m and thee was also a PB of 30.10secs for Sophie Thomas in the 200m.

● Amy Chalk finished sixth overall and easily top woman in the Pensford 10k road race, while Martin Cox held off a trio of Bristol & West AC runners to win the men's race.

● Opting to run the Shakespeare half marathon, in Stratford, Westbury Harriers' Anthony Glover finished seventh in 78mins 37secs. In the marathon Jason Haselhan, of Hogweed Trotters, clocked 3hrs 22mins 53secs for 111th place.
