Somerset claimed four wickets in the middle session on day one of the Championship match against Lancashire at Taunton.

At tea the visitors were 214-5 with Paul Horton unbeaten on 121.

So far Ben Phillips has claimed three wickets while Charl Willoughby has a brace to his name.

After resuming after lunch on 89-1, Willoughby swung one back into Mal Loye to have the former Northants man lbw for 14.

VVS Laxman flayed at a wide one and was caught behind off Willoughby for 12 before Craig Kieswetter also caught Mark Chilton and Francois Du Plessis off Phillips for a duck and one respectively.

Somerset gave a first-class debut to teenager Jos Buttler in place of skipper Justin Langer who was hit in the shoulder in last night's Pro40 defeat to Essex.

There was also a recall for fast bowler David Stiff, who replaced Omari Banks to leave the home side without a specialist spinner.
