Somerset are in title race, Langer insists
Somerset captain Justin Langer has urged his side to keep their good form going after completing back-to-back Championship wins.
Langer's men followed up victory against Yorkshire last week with a nervy 35-run success against Sussex at Hove.
Somerset are likely to be up to third in the Division One table when the latest round of Championship fixtures comes to a close, increasing hope of a maiden county title for the club.
Langer said: "You win Championships by winning games of cricket. We have won the last two and at Lancashire we played well but the rain had an impact. We are doing as much as we can do at the moment.
"We have to go back and play at Taunton now (against Yorkshire the week after next) and if we can keep our momentum going then there is nothing like having the points in the bank.
"It is like last season with Durham and Notts also up there but it is good we are right up there too. It is all well and good having one good season but good clubs are consistent."
Langer hailed the huge improvement in his side's catching since the opening weeks of the season as the reason for the upturn. Sussex resumed on 169-4 needing 180 more runs for a remarkable win but Somerset held their nerve and their chances.
"The way the game had been running I knew we would get six opportunities and we had to take them," said Langer.
"The catching has been unbelievable and it is a credit to how Sarge (coach Andy Hurry) and (fielding coach) Pete Sanderson have been working. It has been awesome.
"We have come good in the slips and the youngsters like Arul (Suppiah) and James Hildreth have been amazing.
"The catching has been the difference between winning and losing in this match."
The other key factor was the bowling of South Africans Charl Willoughby and Alfonso Thomas, who took 13 of the 20 wickets.
"They have been excellent," said Langer. "Alfonso Thomas' attitude is incredible. Not only is he a skilful bowler, but he is a real street fighter and he is always in the game.
"That gives the team lots of energy and confidence and Charl wasn't under the pump but we were putting him under the spotlight to start swinging the ball again a couple of games ago.
"He is swinging the ball how I remember him and if he does that he will take wickets, as we have seen."
