Somerset CCC have signed 22-year-old pace bowler James Hayman on a one-year deal after he impressed in a second XI trial.

Hayman plays for Ashcott and Shapwick in the Bristol and Somerset Division.

Director of cricket Brian Rose said: "We invited him to play in the second team after Jason Kerr saw him play in a friendly and we both agreed he looked very, very promising.

"His physique is very good and he's 6ft 2 or 6ft 3ins tall and he has excellent shape and line to his bowling."

Youngsters Jos Buttler and Calum Haggett have been named in the England Under-19 squad for the tour of Bangladesh next month.

Seamer Steffan Jones, who is out of contract at the club this autumn, is understood to be a target for Worcestershire.

Andrew Caddick's testimonial match at North Perrott, which was rained off in July, has been re-arranged for this Sunday.

The Twenty20 fixture between the home team and a Somerset side will start at 2.30pm.

Somerset CCC last night confirmed that Marcus Trescothick will take over as captain from Justin Langer next season.
