Somerset are set to confirm the signing of India Test spinner Murali Kartik in the next few days.

The left-armer will replace departing Somerset CCC captain Justin Langer as the club's overseas player for 2010.

Kartik has Indian Premier League experience and has also played five seasons in England with Lancashire (two) and Middlesex (three).

Kartik, 33, is an experienced bowler but has the added advantage for Somerset of not being in the India squads at present, making him available for most of next season.

Somerset CCC have also held talks with former captains Cameron White and Graeme Smith about fulfilling the role of second overseas player in the Twenty20 Cup next season.
