Somerset have made all-rounder Wes Durston available for a move.

The Taunton-born 28-year-old has made just two appearances for the first team this season and had his name circulated to all the other counties.

Under new regulations Durston, who is out of contract at the end of the year, could move to a new team and play for them this season if a deal can be agreed.

Durston, a former Millfield School pupil, made his Somerset debut in 2002. He has played 33 first-class matches for the club and averaged 38 with the bat, with one century.

In one-day cricket he averages 30 from 54 games. However, the arrival of prolific South African batsman Zander de Bruyn last year reduced his chances.

Durston's final appearance for Somerset could prove to be the Twenty20 Cup defeat to Gloucestershire at Taunton last month when he made ten not out.

Somerset restricted Yorkshire to 375-7 on the first day of their Championship match at Taunton yesterday with Jacques Rudolph making 191 and Alfonso Thomas claiming 3-50.

Director of cricket Brian Rose said: "Alfonso bowled really well. He is a continual threat to the batter and he always shapes it away from the right-hander and he keeps nagging and nagging so he deserves what he gets.

"They came back well on a long hot day. We looked at the wicket yesterday and it was green and we put a roller on it and the colour went straight out of the wicket."

Andrew Caddick was wicketless in his first day of cricket this season. Rose said: "I suspect he will be disappointed as he would have expected to have got wickets and he got a really good wicket off a no ball. I think it was obvious he needed a bowl after such a long time out."

Meanwhile, Somerset's Twenty20 Cup quarter-final against Lancashire at Old Trafford will take place on Tuesday, July 28 with a 5.40pm start. The club will be running a trip to the match.
