Backwell School dominated the inaugural County Sportshall Athletics Championships, staged by Wesport at the University of the West of England.

The North Somerset school won three of the four age-groups, with Fairfield School claiming the Under-15 boys' title.

Clevedon AC runners Julian Emery and Steve Hollier enjoyed a one-two in the 2009 South West Veterans' 5k road Championships, at Barton St David's, near Glastonbury.

Emery raced clear of the small field to win in 15mins 57secs, with Hollier more than two minutes behind and top veteran over-50.

Cornish runner Caroline Steven was top woman, with Team Bath's Zina Marchant third.

There was more Clevedon AC success in the Inca Trial seven-mile multi-terrain race, organised by Yeovil Town Road Runners, with Kate Britten winning the women's race.

Coach Tim Snowdon has arranged an indoor open competition at Bath University for pole vault, high jump and shot on Saturday, April 4. For details call Snowdon on 07769 08097.

Westbury Harriers' Floren Scrafton ran away with the latest Gwent League race.

Bristol & West AC's Craig Peters finished fourth in the senior men's race and in the combined Under-20/17 men's event, Dan Woolford was second and Nathan Young fourth.

Leading local senior woman was Westbury's Sophie Voller, who also led Westbury to first place in the team competition.

The last race in the Winter Series of Bridge Inn 5K races is due to take place at 7.30pm next Tuesday.

Entries are on the night, with registration from 6.30pm.The first race in the summer series is on April 28.

Nailsea Running Club's first race of the season is the Ironwood Challenge on March 1 (11am) from Long Ashton Sports Hall.

Entry forms can be downloaded at www.nailsearunningclub.org.uk or runners can enter on the day.

Team Bath road runner Holly Rush (1:58.32) finished second in the Bramley 20-mile road race.

Bristol & West AC's Helen Fines won the Muddy Woody six-mile multi-terrain race, near Hereford, finishing 20th overall.

Nailsea Running Club's Dan Nettlefield finished second in the 4 Trigs race, organised by Sidmouth Running Club.

Clevedon AC's Billy Sheppard was fourth (58:30) and Bristol & West AC's Lisa Newing finished fourth woman (67:24) in the Lytchett Manor 10-mile road race.
