ALASTAIR Cook conceded the rapid emergence of Craig Kieswetter would cause England's selectors problems after the Somerset star blazed 143 against a Bangladesh Cricket Board XI in Fatullah.

Kieswetter was only parachuted into the squad for Bangladesh at the last minute after advancing his case with the Lions, but he stole the show in the tour opener, striking six sixes and 14 fours in his side's total of 370 for seven.

Paul Collingwood also found top gear as he too peppered the boundary on his way to a 74-ball 109 as England triumphed by 112 runs.

But, while Collingwood's contributions are the norm, newcomer Kieswetter appears to offer something new at the top of the innings. And that means space may have to be made for the Johannesburg-born player across the formats.

"We knew he could play like that from the Lions games but to do so on your first official England game, even though it wasn't a full international, is fantastic," said Cook, captaining his side in 50-over cricket for the first time.

"He didn't look too flustered, took the right options at the right times and played a fantastic knock.

"He's got a very good chance (of breaking into the first XI), he's done very well to push his name forward. It's going to make for some tough selection problems down the line, even on this tour, but the ultimate benefit of that is that the England side is improving."

Kieswetter's innings was not without fortune, as it contained four dropped catches and a botched stumping, but the natural timing he showed is just what team director Andy Flower has been looking for.

Kevin Pietersen fared less well, harshly judged lbw off his first delivery, while spinner Graeme Swann impressed with the ball as he claimed four for 44 as the home side closed on 258 for nine from their 50 overs.

Having set a formidable target, England were never in any trouble, although Ajmal Shahzad can be pleased with the scalp of Test cap Shahriar Nafees in the fifth over of the reply.

Shahzad, who removed both openers in the first over of his England debut against Pakistan last week, clean bowled the home skipper for eight.

While Swann's success story goes on, fellow off-spinner James Tredwell did not impress, taking just one wicket. Durham's Liam Plunkett collected two scalps – including top-scorer Sharifullah.

England play another tour match at the same venue tomorrow. The first international is on Sunday.
