Somerset considering a move to bring White back to Taunton
Somerset will strongly consider making Cameron White their second overseas player next season.
The all-rounder cracked 53 for Australia in the first one-day international at the Oval yesterday and had successful seasons at Taunton in 2006 and 2007.
New regulations mean counties can field two overseas players in the Twenty20 Cup in 2010. White will not be Somerset's first choice to replace Justin Langer if the veteran Aussie does not return.
But his ability as a hard-hitting middle order player who can bowl wicket-taking leg-spin will make him a perfect 20-over specialist.
White scored 116 not out from 53 balls (nine sixes, seven fours) for Somerset CCC in 2006 when they set the then world record Twenty20 score of 250-3 at Taunton.
The Victorian, 26, also scored 141 not out off 70 deliveries against Worcestershire later that year.
Somerset CCC seem more likely to opt for a specialist spinner as their main overseas player next year.
Langer's men yesterday drew with Durham after a second successive wash-out at the Riverside.
The Sabres are back in action at Taunton for the visit of Essex Eagles in the Pro40 League on Tuesday. Somerset are expected to name their 15-man squad for next month's Champions League Twenty20 competition in India early next week.
