Local runners keen to try something different this year might like to consider the 2009 Somerset Series.

Already underway – the Hestercombe Humdinger, Babcary 7 and Butleigh 7 have been held – the popular series comprises 16 races culminating with the Brent Knoll fell race in November.

Ron Shannon, of Bitton Road Runners, finished 10th in the Connemarathon Ultra 39.3miles road race in a time of 5hrs 22mins 24secs.

A free drink to all finishers is the reward to runners completing the Hanham Horror six miles multi-terrain race on Sunday, April 12 (10am), starting from Vicarage Road Playing Fields.
