Soapbox:'Once built on, it will be gone forever'
I'M writing in response to the article in the Post of October 2, relating to an application for town green status for the land behind Asda in Whitchurch ("Town green battle – the end is in sight").
This parkland, with many lovely trees and which is home to a variety of birds, is used by children to play in.

I've lived in Hengrove for more than 40 years and used this parkland regularly.
Development has now started on the old Whitchurch Airport site – to include hundreds of houses in which will live families with children and pets who will need this open space for recreational use.
Most areas in towns and cities have parks, and this land is a park to local residents.
It needs to remain as a green lung for the benefit of families in an ever-increasing concrete jungle.
Council members involved in decision-making are distant to the needs of the area.
The situation should be resolved in favour of keeping this amenity for the benefit of residents of Whitchurch and Hengrove.
Town green status will ensure the area will remain a recreational open space and wildlife site. Once built on, it will be gone forever.
Jeanette M Withey (Mrs), Hengrove.
