Soapbox:Soft target for the waste police
WHAT is the chosen medium for conveying the council's recycling message to those wasteful, selfish, social pariahs the elderly? That's right – a nice, shiny, hard, plastic DVD costing thousands of pounds.
Personally, I would have thought that the elderly, the pen and paper generation, would have preferred the 11th Commandment, "Thou shalt not fly-tip", lovingly inscribed on a piece of fair trade writing paper.

No doubt the DVD is to be called Green Is Good, its title emblazoned on the cover, encircled by the stars of the EU flag, and will feature 85-year-old Mildred grimacing as a dreary, dressed-down drip imparts such wisdom as: "Now sweetheart, this is, like, c-a-r-d-b-o-a-r-d, yeah, and it, like, goes in that box there, yeah?"
Having endured the hardship of rationing and survived being targeted by Hitler's bombers, Mildred is to spend her final years being targeted by the State following her heinous crime of once leaving her wheelie bin in the "wrong" place.
Celebrity eco-campaigners like Madonna can bring an entourage of 250 people to Cardiff, including a chiropractor and masseuse, for her recent performance at the Millennium Stadium, or the world and his wife can plan to descend on London for the 2012 Olympics, but should obstinate Mildred fail to properly separate her cardboard from her tin cans, the "drip" informs her that she will be condemning her grandchildren to irreversible climate- change catastrophe.
Mildred should be ashamed of herself. Save the planet, shun the elderly.
Sean, Bristol.
