This is Bristol

I read with interest the Post article on April 8 with regard to the "Fresh Prince of Lawrence Hill".

There were several questions which immediately sprang to mind and I was wondering if there is anyone out there who can answer them?

First and foremost, how have 30,000 Somalis arrived to live in Bristol and why? Bearing in mind they have had to travel from north-east Africa to reach the UK, I am at a loss to understand why they have chosen Bristol as their final destination.

Although I appreciate the problems that Somalia has experienced in recent years, I would have thought it would have been more appropriate for the majority of these people to have made new homes in neighbouring countries.

What percentage of the 30,000 are genuine asylum seekers?

What is it costing the UK taxpayer in this present financial climate to provide for them as, no doubt, the vast majority of them cannot communicate and so cannot work and, therefore, cannot pay taxes?

The only conclusion that I can come to is that this is a government "back door" immigration policy, which I feel this country can ill afford to maintain as the majority of many local authorities' resources are already stretched to the limit.

Mr W Berry, by email.
