Snowbound and about to give birth
A woman in labour in Midsomer Norton had to be taxied to hospital by an ambulance crew because she was snowbound.
Her husband tried to take her to the Royal United Hospital in Bath by car, but he was unable to get the vehicle out of their driveway.
Great Western Ambulance Service (GWAS) were called just after 4am on Thursday and an ambulance officer was sent to their home in a 4x4 vehicle.
When ambulance officer Alan Morris arrived the woman, in her late 30s contractions was experiencing contractions little more than a minute apart.
He said: "I had to decide whether there was time to wait for the midwife to arrive but it soon became apparent, there wasn't.
"The ambulance would not have been able to make it to the address due to the location so the best option was to take her in the 4x4 vehicle."
He drove the woman to the Royal United Hospital (RUH), Bath where she was expected, and left in the hands of maternity staff.
