Bristol's ambulance service has been forced to cancel journeys for patients attending hospital appointments as a result of the bad weather.

Great Western Ambulance Service (GWAS) has taken the decision to abort trips unless they are essential because of the risk of travelling on icy roads.

The trust is currently liaising with hospitals to determine which trips they will cancel.

GWAS said they are trying to contact as many patients as possible either directly or through hospitals, but have said they cannot guarantee they will get through to everyone.

They have asked patients to contact the relevant hospital department to see if they are still expected.

It is still responding to emergency 999 calls.

Heavy snow and icy conditions has also caused difficulties at Bristol International Airport, where three flights have been cancelled.

“The *SNOW* hasn't cancelled ambulance journeys but the GWAS has.”
