Golf round-up: Although Burnham and Berrow's under-rated nine-hole Channel Course was opened 30 years ago, only now does each hole have two tees to provide 18 different challenges.

So, this month, the club launched the Channel Course Cup, a competition for teams of three where one score on each hole counts. It is open to all.

The first winners with 54 points were the Smith family representing three clubs – Bob Smith (Burnham and Berrow), June Smith (Wedmore) and Andy Smith (Weston-super-Mare).

Club manager Michael Blight said: "This is an ideal opportunity for players from other clubs to experience links golf in a friendly, competitive situation."

Tee times are available by application to the club, for players with club handicaps in the morning and golfers with social or society handicaps in the afternoon.

Single players are also welcome and the club will arrange teams. No date has yet been arranged for the next event.

Lansdown's Di Barwell teamed up with Saltford's Peter Williams to win the four-ball better ball at the Somerset Past Lady Captains annual mixed competition at Saltford with 45 points.

Somerset county captain Amanda Mayne (Saltford) and Hannah Grant (Enmore Park) won the county's Fowler Lock Pendants at Tall Pines with a round of 70.

Gill Wellington and Lena Warren (Farrington) returned 71.5 to finish second, a half-point ahead of Burnham's Gill Barry and Moira Davies.

Mayne and her Saltford colleague Ella Nash also won the Bristol & District Lady Golfers Scratch Foursomes Challenge Cup.

Thornbury Golf Centre has been awarded the Golf Mark accreditation highlighting the club's work in promoting both junior and beginners' golf.

It is awarded by The English Golf Union (EGU) and English Women's Golf Association (EWGA) to identify and acknowledge golf facilities in England that are junior and beginner friendly

The award is based on coaching and playing, club environment, including sports equity and ethics, and child protection and duty of care.

It also integrates Sport England's Clubmark award – a national standard for quality sports clubs.

Bristol Golf Centre at Hambrook has received the EGU/EWGA Range Mark Award in the national scheme that identifies and recognises quality golf ranges.

The EGU/EWGA recognise the important role that driving ranges play in introducing adults and juniors to golf and provide coaching and practice opportunities for all standards of golfers.
