Slade handed double boost for Dons clash
Yeovil Town have been boosted by the return to fitness of Gavin Tomlin and Danny Schofield ahead of today's League One clash at MK Dons.
Schofield had been sidelined for two weeks with a knee injury, while Tomlin sustained a dead leg against Brentford on Tuesday.
But both players trained yesterday and declared themselves available for today's match at Stadium MK.
"To have both players fit will be a big boost," said Town boss Russell Slade. "And it looks like they'll be OK.
"Danny's had two training sessions now and although he won't be 100 per cent, he's definitely in contention.
"And Gav's made a miraculous recovery because he was limping quite badly on Thursday."
Tomlin suffered the injury in a first-half challenge at Griffin Park but completed 90 minutes before realising the extent of the injury.
"I think it was quite a bad tackle," said the former Brentford striker. "I turned the guy and he caught me with his knee, but the ref didn't see.
"It was quite strange going back to Brentford as a Yeovil player and I actually went in the wrong changing room before the game!
"I just did it out of habit but quickly realised what I'd done and walked across the corridor to the away changing room.
"There's still a lot of people that I know at Brentford anyway, and that's why I didn't celebrate my goal too much, out of respect."
Tomlin and Schofield's recoveries give Slade a selection dilemma for the first time this season. New signing Andy Welsh is also pushing for a start.
Slade also has competition for places in midfield, with Darren Way, Keiran Murtagh, Marc Bircham and Gary Roberts all hoping to get the nod.
"Having Danny Schofield and Andy Welsh in the squad is like signing two new players and the training stepped up a level this morning," added Slade.
"We haven't got the biggest squad but the competition is getting better and the players know that."
Left-back Nathan Smith and winger Aidan Downes will both miss out through injury today – but Smith should be back for next Saturday's home game with Brighton.
"They've both done some light running and Nathan's not too far away," added Slade. "I'll be disappointed if he doesn't make the Brighton game."
Yeovil complete a run of four away games in a row this afternoon, and Slade is looking forward to getting back to Huish Park.
He added: "Someone told me that we travelled 2,158 miles after Saturday in less than two weeks, which is quite some mileage.
"It's the last away game of the four though so I'm trying to keep it together because it's been hard, probably the hardest run of games I've ever had.
"If we can get something at Milton Keynes then we can draw breath and prepare for two important home games."
