Two staff-members of a Bristol school plunged 10,000ft in a sponsored skydive to raise money for musical instruments.

Wendy Quelcuti and Steffi Stempien collected more than £700 for St. Christopher's School in Westbury Park.

The money is going towards musical instruments for the school's sensory garden, designed for St Christopher's pupils, who all have special needs.

"After jumping out of the plane, the freefall lasted about 40 seconds then we enjoyed a breathtaking flight that lasted another six minutes," said Wendy, who is an NVQ assessor.

Steffi, a care support worker, said: "It's one of the most amazing things I have ever done. I'd definitely do it again."

The dive took place at Redlands Airfield near Swindon, after Wendy and Steffi's jumps were cancelled twice cancelled because of bad weather.

St Christopher's is a residential school which was founded in 1945. It is home to 49 children who have profound learning difficulties, many with autism and multiple disabilities. Many of these children have difficulties in communicating and have complex needs which the school caters for.
