Skuse rounds off busy time with new deal
Cole Skuse has rejected the suggestion he is stuck in a comfort zone after signing a new contract at Ashton Gate.
The midfielder is now tied to club until the summer of 2013 – a one-year extension.
The club's player of the year for 2009-10 said: "At the end of the season I finished on a massive high. I was a bit overwhelmed at the presentation. It was a great night for me and my family are very proud and so was my wife to be – now my wife.
"It has been a busy summer. I got married, moved house and bought a little puppy so I took it all on in one go.
"Then I had a phone call over the summer from the club to cap it all off. Colin (Sexstone – chief executive) got hold of my agent and contacted me and they were willing to offer me a new contract.
"I was very happy to sign and I think it got done quicker than the club expected."
Skuse, 24, has been linked with moves throughout his career with Bolton, Stoke and Reading mentioned.
Skuse said: "I have always been a Bristol City fan. All my family and friends are based in Bristol and some people say to me – some people from outside – say you are stuck in a comfort zone, but not at all.
"This is a club playing in the Championship, pushing to get into the Premier League. I don't see how I could be stuck in a comfort zone. What more can you ask for?"
Skuse led the Robins in their opening pre-season friendly against IFK Gothenburg on Tuesday in the absence of injured skipper Louis Carey.
"It was the first time I have been captain of the first team," said Skuse. "When the manager said you are going to lead the side out it was a nice feeling. Obviously Louis is a Bristol boy and it means a lot for a local lad to be captain of his local side. Some might say you might give that little bit extra and I would like to think it could be something for the future."
