Skipper Jamie Lloyd led from the front as Bristol Saracens went top of Gloucester Premier with a useful 28-12 home win over Cirencester.

The 23-year-old tighthead, who began his career with the club as a mini 17 seasons ago, touched down twice, including one score from a line-out move straight off the training paddock.

The second owed much to Will Harding, whose huge tackle 15 metres out earned a turnover which Lloyd latched on to to race away for his second five-pointer.

Scrum-half Robert Webber, making his first start of the campaign, also touched down, while veteran Karl Venn, now playing at openside, kept up his record of a try a game with another score, Nick Webster adding one conversion and two penalties.

Frampton Cotterell had only a Paul Beet try and a Mike Ashwin penalty to show for their efforts in a 42-8 reverse at Tewkesbury.

In Gloucester One, Old Bristolians inflicted a first league defeat in two seasons over visiting Bream thanks to a dramatic late try from skipper Dan Evans.

Fly-half Adam Thackwray's cross-field kick sat up kindly for the full-back, who needed no second invitation to pounce and touch down to put his side 26-21 in front.

Thackwray, Lyndon Davies and Ed Humphreys also claimed tries, while Simon Hawkins kicked two penalties as the Old Boys made it two from two.

Ashley Down also chalked up a second straight success, downing local rivals Aretians 29-5.

New captain Ben Guy, evergreen winger Dave John, hooker Shaun Smith and fly-half Andy Morrison (2) claimed the tries, with Craig Richens adding two conversions.

Chew Valley went down 53-5 away to Tor in Somerset Premier, with centre Andy Molyneux claiming his side's only try from a 20-metre driving maul.

Imperial are among the early pacesetters in Somerset One after securing a comfortable 32-10 win away to Old Redcliffians II.

The visitors stormed into a 25-point lead at the break thanks to tries from Andy McCormac, Matt Edwards and Ben Payne with Dean Payne adding two conversions, a penalty and a drop goal for a rare kicker's full-house.

Both teams flagged after the break but Imperial managed a further score from Ben Payne, converted by Greg Dix, with Old Reds replying with a converted try and a penalty.

James Horton marked his debut at centre for Chew Valley IIs with a hat-trick of tries and two conversions in the 39-11 win at Minehead IIIs in Somerset Three South. Veteran lock Bruce Wellman also touched down twice, with colt Tom Limb claiming his first try in senior rugby and skipper Liam Bunce, making a rare outing on the wing, rounding things off as Chew made it three out of three.
