Sixth formers lead the way on recycling
A GROUP of sixth formers at Bristol Metropolitan Academy are taking the lead on a recycling project.
In their first week, the teenagers encouraged fellow pupils at the Fishponds secondary school to recycle 1,500 bottles and cans.
The initiative started after a group of 12 students took part in training by The Speakers Trust that aims to help young people speak up about environmental issues.
Two further campaigns are planned: a "switch off all electrics" campaign and a "meat free" Friday.
Students Nikhil Holkar, Tariq Ali and Daya Singh said: "We are doing this recycling campaign to improve the future of our lives by educating students and staff at Bristol Metropolitan to recycle more and conserve essential energy. We have been motivating students in all year groups to do their part, having a bit of fun and rewarding the students with a film extravaganza at the end of term.
"One tin can produces three hours of TV use."
