Sillence is golden as Bristol escape the wet weather
ROGER Sillence turned in a fine all-round performance to guide Bristol to a battling two-wicket victory at Taunton Deane on another damp weekend in the Globe Sports West of England Premier League.
The former Gloucestershire and Worcestershire professional, pictured, came on first change to bag 4-28 as Taunton were bowled out for 149 after losing the toss in this Premier Division clash.
In reply, Bristol were in all sorts of trouble at 32-6 before Sillence, first in tandem with skipper Will Rudge and then with Bobby Brown, turned the match around with an unbeaten 73.
He shared a crucial stand of 64 with Rudge (11) and then put on 51 with Brown (18) as Bristol eventually secured their fourth win of the summer with more than seven overs to spare.

A point behind Bristol, in fifth place, are Downend who showed nerves of steel for a one-wicket success at Taunton St Andrews, chasing a target of only 113.
Bridgwater remain top despite a 42-run home reverse in a rain-affected clash with Corsham.
Opener Robin D'Souza (74) and Tom Hankins (72) put on 143 for the second wicket as the visitors reached 244-8 from 45 overs, Mitchell Windsor taking 4-46.
Rain reduced Bridgwater's target to 207 from 38 overs but they fell five runs short despite half centuries from opener Merv Hallaran and Tom Clarke.
Lloyd Davies smashed an unbeaten 52 off just 23 balls to propel Bath to a seven-wicket home win over Ilminster. And Nick Trainor's unbeaten 139 lifted Frocester to a 49-run win at home to Gloucester City Winget.
In Premier Two, Thornbury were edged out by two wickets at home to Warminster. Openers Luke Davis (63) and Greg Stephens (40) top scored in the visitors' 42-over total of 220-8 before Warminster reached a rain-reduced target thanks to Neil Dredge's unbeaten 62 from 40 balls.
Earlier skipper Richard Trotman (3-33) and John Wormwell (2-27, both from eight) struck for Thornbury.
Weston-super-Mare, meanwhile, moved up to fourth with a six-wicket home defeat of Keynsham who folded from 98-5 to 132 all out, Richard Pannell top scoring on 36 and Gloucestershire's Richard Coughtrie hitting 24.
Sam Trego (3-14) and Ashley Allen (2-26) led the way for Weston who then eased to their target in 41 overs, Trego (42) and Chris Davidson (24) sharing an unbroken stand of 67.
Only one game was completed in the Bristol & Somerset division, Minehead overcoming fellow high-flyers Clevedon by five wickets.
Tom Wright was a real thorn in Clevedon's side, finishing with 4-2 from five overs as the North Somerset side folded from 108-5 to 117 all out and then hitting 46 – the top score of the game – in a comfortable success.
In the Glos & Wilts division, Chipping Sodbury moved out of the bottom two with a three-wicket win at Painswick.
Jamie Rendell (3-30), Jamie Wakefield (2-21) and Jon Toghill (2-26) combined to bowl out the home side for 158, laying the foundations for Sodbury's third victory since last season's promotion.
Richard Howell then weighed in with a valuable 67, although Painswick did not help their cause by sending down 37 wides.
The wet weather also badly hit games in the Bristol & North Somerset division where only one result was possible, Lansdown defeating visiting Claverham by three wickets. Opener Lloyd Richardson's 96 featured 14 fours and three sixes as Claverham reached 214 all out, Harry Veal the pick of the attack with 4-34.
But Daryn-Lee Dorman went one better for Lansdown with an unbeaten 113 (14 fours, one six) despite the efforts of Sam Waring (4-52) and JP van Aswegen (2-33).
