Zorro West End run extended

Thursday, August 14, 2008, 15:04

Zorro the musical is extending it's West End run after breaking box office records.

The sword wielding superhero stage show at the Garrick Theatre took £255,000 in the first week of August so, due to public demand, the producers have extended its booking period until September 2009.

The success of Zorro in London has meant that the show is set for a number of international productions. It opens in Tokyo, Japan in October 2009 and then in Sydney, Australia in November 2010. Negotiations are also under way for an American production.

Star of the show Matt Rawle has described the action packed musical as "a family show". He said: "There are loads of little lads sitting there with Zorro hats and Zorro masks on. Sitting there, not breathing, trying to take it all in. And they love it, they absolutely love it and they come round to the stage door."

Matt's co-star Emma Williams has promised a "very sexy show", with Matt adding that it had: "Lots of passionate flamenco and very spectacular sword fights from rope swings and magic tricks."
