Shirehampton emerged triumphant following a cracking Somerset County League Cup final clash with Taunton Blackbrook at Portishead last night.

Steve Winter's team needed extra-time to overcome their Premier Division rivals 5-3 – after the sides had been locked at 2-2 at the end of 90 minutes.

Shire, who finished the league campaign as runners-up to Bridgwater Reserves, appeared to be heading for a comfortable win as early goals from Lee Tudor and Rob Sage put them 2-0 up.

Taunton levelled with a last-minute penalty to force extra-time, but it was Shire who took control. Martin Cook, Lee Riches and teenager George Brimson fired them to victory.

Shire chairman Pete McCall said: "It was a great way to end the season; Steve (Winter) has done a superb job for us."
