Shirehampton gunning for cup upset against Almondsbury UWE
GFA Trophy:
SHIREHAMPTON supremo Mickey Tanner has warned Almondsbury UWE his in-form side are "up for the challenge" in tomorrow's home second-round GFA Trophy tie.
Tanner's team are making big strides in the Somerset County League top flight, while new-look Almonds are attempting to find their feet in the Toolstation First Division.
"We fancy our chances, although we're respectful of Almondsbury's status," said Tanner. "We're leaking a few goals but lads like Rich Hewitt, Dan Griffiths and Lee Riches are banging them in. We'll certainly not be intimidated by the game."
Almonds have lost their last five games and boss Danny Phillips admitted: "Shire are flying and we're desperate for a win of any sorts."
Hanham Athletic entertain Harrow Hill high on confidence following two wins and a draw under the new management team of Carl Hart and Paul Dingley. New defender from Brimscombe, Chris Barley, could feature.
Cadbury Heath welcome back centre-half Neil Ward and broken-arm victim Chris Astley for the home match with Ellwood, while winger Keith Williams faces a fitness test.
Roman Glass St George's central defensive problems have hit crisis point, with Dan Crossland and Addy Cutts having joined long-term absentees Matt Baird and Dave Greaves on the sidelines, but at least midfielder Ricardo Craig returns for the tie at Tytherington Rocks.
The home team have been boosted by the return of versatile midfielder Luke Garbacz to the club following a stint with Patchway Town.
"Luke is a talented young player and if he maintains a good attitude he can become a regular in our team," said manager Barry Granger
Oldland Abbotonians boss Spencer Thomas will use the home tie against unbeaten Gloucestershire County League high-fliers King's Stanley to give his fringe players run-outs. First-team regulars Josh Clapham, James Crew and Mitch Tippins are struggling for fitness, while Simon Dew is suspended and Joe Chandler, the subject of a seven-day approach by Bitton, is on county duty.
Henbury and Highridge clash for the second time in four days following Wednesday's 1-1 County League stalemate.
