A group of friends and family called The Young Sharks reigned victorious at the annual Pill Rag. The team from the village took the top honour of supreme champion with their Brazilian themed carnival float. Crowds of thousands packed onto the village green on Saturday for the event, now in its 88th year. Six floats from local organisations – including the Pirates of Pill, above – and around half a dozen walking entries joined the parade around the village. The parade was led by Rag King Sam Hunt, aged 21, and Queen Helen Brayley, aged 21, above left, helped by Queen Mother, Mandy Bradley, aged 46 and attendant Samantha Burton, aged 17. Local teenager Luke Derrick, aged 15, was crowned the winner of an X-Factor style competition called Rag Factor. There were also stalls, pet show, a fancy dress competition and live music from the Axe Factor Band.
