Shane's blast sets up victory for Avon Athletic
Avon Youth League: Avon Athletic A Under-12s surged to the top of Division I with a 3-1 win after a hard-fought game with Stoke Lane.
They never looked back after taking the lead through star man Shane Goodman, who blasted home a long-range free-kick, giving the keeper no chance.
Avon doubled their advantage when a ball into the Stoke Lane box from Ollie Campball bounced off a defender and into the net.
Stoke Lane pulled a goal back but, straight from the restart, Avon put space between themselves and their opponents with Daniel Rugman getting to the ball before the Stoke Lane keeper to slot home the third goal.
That proved enough for the battling Avon players as both teams shut each other out well in a second-half stalemate
Having lost for the first time in the league this season in their previous away game, Rockleaze Rangers bounced back in style with a 10-1 win at Division V leaders Thornbury Falcons.
Thornbury, who went into the game with an unbeaten record, had no answer to the central midfield partnership of Alex Pestell and Cameron Scott.
They provided a stream of possession to flying wingers Rob Yard and Jai Jethwa, who scored a hat-trick.
Sonny Williams demonstrated his skills alongside the hardworking Callum Martin up front, while the foundations for the victory came from a strong defence, in which Jack Boreham and Finley Wilks were outstanding.
Substitutes Sam Gale, Pat Cooley, Rob Ashford, Ricky Vafeas and Matt Faulkner all contributed to an impressive team performance.
Martin (2), Yard (2), Williams, Faulkner and Pestell, with his first goal of the season, all hit the target and Rangers could even afford the luxury of missing a penalty.
In the same division, Matthew Braybrook smashed a hat-trick as Bristol United B defeated Fry Club Wanderers 5-2.
Jordan Rashid-Morgan and Josh Kay were also on target in a great team performance.
Southmead Community Sport struck back from the blow of conceding the first two goals of their Division V encounter against Hanham Athletic to win 5-2.
A lapse of concentration allowed Joshua Knight to fire an easy opener for the away side before the same player showed strength and pace to double their advantage.
But with captain Ashley Hayes leading by example, Southmead roared back. Hayes converted a penalty to get them rolling before further goals from Robbie Rimmer (2), Josh Small and Rhys Gibbs completed the victory.
Jack Welch was a triple marksman as Rockleaze Rangers Under-13s maintained their 100 per cent home record in Division IV with a 7-0 win over Lockleaze United.
Welch set Rockleaze on their way with the opening goal and Harry Persad doubled the advantage by completing a good team move with a firm finish.
Welch twice went close before clinically striking his second after a purposeful run to give the home side a 3-0 half-time advantage.
Ollie Lloyd added a fourth soon after the break and Welch completed his hat-trick with a poacher's finish.
Lockleaze keeper Rian Byrne made a series of fine saves, including one from a penalty, but he was given no chance as Jack Millar and the hardworking Ope Obakin struck further goals for Rockleaze.
Shire Colts B responded emphatically after conceding an early goal to beat Keynsham Town Juniors 7-1 in Under-13 Division V.
On a heavy pitch, Shire started slowly and soon fell behind. But as the first half progressed they gradually eased into their stride, scoring three goals in the last 15 minutes through Jotham Bowyer (2) and James Bojski.
Shire maintained their good form in the second half by netting four more goals, courtesy of Sam Khavandi's brace and strikes from Dan Warren and Bojski.
Good performances by Joe Pierce, Alex Darby and Charlie Luff Rogers in defence ensured there was no way back for Keynsham.
Ryan Connolly was Southmead Community Sport's matchwinner as they maintained their top-of-the-table status in Division V with a 3-2 win over previously-unbeaten Bishport.
Southmead went in front with a penalty by Connolly, only for Bishport to equalise. The game was very even at this stage but it was Bishport who snatched the lead with a well-taken goal.
Southmead responded by putting Bishport under severe pressure and Connolly fired their equaliser, then completed his hat-trick with the winner five minutes from time.
Captain James Batt had an outstanding game in midfield for Southmead together with Lee Burton, Josh Palmer and full-back Ollie Bryant.
