Shane Winstone makes a promising start to Europro Tour
SHANE Winstone's decision to turn professional was vindicated when he finished in a tie for fifth place in his first event on the EuroPro Tour.
He battled against the weather at Wensum Valley, Norfolk, and his first round was delayed by the rain. After he resumed, he slipped from one-under-par to two-over as he dropped a shot at the par-five 13th and made a double at the last for 74.
He comfortably survived the cut after the tournament was reduced to 36 holes. Then he followed with one-under-par 71, which included three birdies and two dropped shots. A one-over-par 145 total was worth £1,200.
Paul Reed (Bristol and Clifton), a winner on the tour last year, was a further shot behind after rounds of 74 and 72. His share of eighth place earned him £775.
