Serial Bristol burglar Brian Mearns jailed for nine years

A PROLIFIC and dangerous burglar has been jailed for nine years for a string of raids across Bristol.

In one, on Muller Road, Horfield, Brian Mearns used a knife to threaten his victim.

The 29-year-old, of Shirehampton, admitted committing that crime last October and another 14 domestic burglaries across the city in 2012, which were all taken into account by Judge Martin Picton when he passed the hefty sentence at Bristol Crown Court.

Avon and Somerset Detective Constable Martyn Stanleigh said: "This was a particularly distressing incident for the victim. All burglaries can have an emotional impact on victims, as well as their financial loss and inconvenience.

    “Let's hope he does the full 9 years & doesn't come out on remission or licence after a few months.
    My other hope is that he doesn't pass on or increase his criminal skills during his stay at 'The University of Crime'.
    Ideally he should take the opportunity to learn the error of his ways & return to society a reformed & worthwhile individual - well, one can always hope!”
