BRISTOL artist Jayne Abbott has had one of her designs chosen for the Lord Mayor's Christmas card.

The chosen drawing shows a snowy scene with the ss Great Britain in it.

It is one of a series of drawings she did to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Brunel's birth, which have been made into cards. Others include the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the Underfall Yard.

The Lord Mayor, Colin Smith, saw some of Ms Abbott's work at an exhibition at the Royal West of England Academy earlier this year and they discussed her producing a card design.

Ms Abbott, 53, of Redland, said: "I'm so delighted that the Lord Mayor of Bristol has chosen one of my pieces of work as the subject for his Christmas card this year.

"For me this is both an honour and a privilege."

About 600 cards will be sent out by the Lord Mayor – to other Lord Mayors across the country, councillors and aldermen, as well as other people that Mr Smith has worked with in the year.
