Searching for the Pretlove family of Bristol.
CAN you help me to track the outer reaches of my family? In August of last year there appeared in this paper a memorial insert for Les Pretlove, who apparently died in 2009. It was placed by his daughter Chris, who may be married and therefore with a different surname. The Bristol branch of the Pretlove family arrived in the west about 1850 from the ancestral homes on the borders of Hertfordshire and Essex. One of their most poignant sons was Reginald Arthur Jubilee Pretlove born in 1897 and who acquired the name Jubilee for fairly obvious reasons.
He died on his ship in 1915, a victim of World War One ,, aged 18. His name is inscribed on the Mercantile Marine Memorial on Tower Hill in London. He was one of those rare beings in the Pretlove family, a twin. His twin sister Selina Alice Victoria presumably had the name Victoria for similar reasons to Jubilee. She survived into the 1950s.
