Sean O'Driscoll unlikely to have assistant in place for Leeds trip
Bristol City's search for a new assistant coach is unlikely to yield results before this weekend's npower Championship clash with Leeds United at Elland Road.
New head coach Sean O'Driscoll has made no secret of his desire to bring in someone to work alongside him at Ashton Gate.

Although the 55-year-old Midlander was hoping to have a first lieutenant in place by the time he took charge of his first game, it now looks as though he will have to wait until after the weekend.
The Championship club are currently talking to people on a short-list which has been compiled by both O'Driscoll and the board of directors.

As revealed in The Post yesterday, Walsall assistant boss Richard O'Kelly is one of those under consideration.
O'Driscoll worked with O'Kelly at Bournemouth and Doncaster previously. But the Midlander only joined Walsall at the start of this season and is under contract at the Banks's Stadium.

“@RedNemesis1:
As soon as one club stops spending another one starts and with parachute payments in place the NPC becomes a more difficult place each year. How FFP effects that I don't know and until I see Chelsea & Man City banned from Europe, I won't believe it's serious.
When you look at Chelsea's accounts you'll see that their much vaunted £1m profit last season (after which they spent £100m on players!)was cynical accounting, no more, no less.
Next year we could be joined by QPR,Newcastle & Villa all with debt, wealthy owners and parachute money-Oh and Yeovil & Swindon!
I wrote about Forest's squad, wage bill and players salaries earlier in another thread and when I tell you that Billy Sharp was offered £23kpw to stay at Donnie but moved to Southampton for £40kpw, you won't be surprised to see their improvement.
I'll back SOD the same way I'll back any manager but we're six points adrift, albeit with a game in hand, with only sixty points to play for so SOS might be more appropriate!
As I have also wrote ad nauseum, there is no magic wand and Sean has the same players moreover the same Board & owner who have lurched from largese to austerity and from one manager to another since 2004.
Hopefully he can galvanse our players and add consistency as we're the only club at the bottom without an unbeaten run longer than two games...yes, two games and on only one occasion has that been two wins v Pal & Card when we still conceded three!
On course to concede 40 more goals than when we made the play offs we're also on target to score 11 more goals, as well! so it isn't difficult to asses the problem-Now, addressing that problem, particularly given the timeframe..................”

“To look on the positive side, whilst we have been poor, others around us havent been a lot better (otherwise we would be well and truely adrift) and there is also likely to be one or two from the pack slipping backwards e.g Huddersfield and like Barnsley last season. I appreciate that it will be difficult, but another thing on our side is that we have been in similar situations the past 2 season so know what that end of the table is all about (unfortunately!).
Football is all about momentum, either upwards or downwards, and confidence so you never know. Although we havent shown it so much of late, Peterboro apart, there are goals in the side which is often the thing lacking for teams at the bottom so if, and its a big IF, SOD can sort the defence out we may make some progress.
All that said if we have to suffer relegation, so be it, as long as we continue with the sustainability strategy and make the club more stable. It is only in periods of stability that we have witnessed any success at the Gate.”

“The more I hear from Mr S. O'Driscoll,Esq , the more I believe this is a very good appointment.
I have trawled the internet reading interviews and commentary on the man ( nicknamed Noisy at Fulham)and studied his statistics at Bournemouth, Doncaster and Florest. He is an extremely deep thinker and strategist and seems utterly honest and committed .
I was concerned when I read PD's stats about him at Doncaster when he went 20 odd games without a win but this was either side of 2 seasons and only after his board had sold his defence! The only time he has had any real money to spend( at Florest) his win ratio improves considerably. Whilst with no money at Bournemouth and Donny he won two promotions via play offs- something we're not used to.
He talks a great deal about sustainability and if we are to have a long term future which so many clubs don't then sustainability is key. I do not believe we are likely to stay up but I do believe our return will be swift and we will have a different feel to the club.Plenty of mistakes have been made by the board and by Steve but I genuinely think they're beginning to get it and dropping down to go forward fitter and leaner is no bad thing. It's quite clear that cash alone (£40,000,000.00 and rising)does not buy a place in the Championship let alone the Premiership.I am resigned to Div1 football next season and will renew my ST but if in the meantime we can play some entertaining passionate football which includes a few home grown players then so much the better.”

“There are plenty of coaches at AG who can fill him in on previous performances and keep things ticking over so he should wait and get the right man.No rush.”
