Screaming young girls would faint
IN my late teens, over 50 years ago, I was a member of the St John Ambulance and several times went on duty at the Hippodrome.
Some points stick out in my mind:

Young girls in their early teens would scream and yell when the stars came on stage. They would faint with hysteria. Unfortunately their underwear was so tight that it had to be removed to help revive them! Can you imagine the uproar if this happened today?
One occasion really stays with me. Cliff Richard, above, and the Shadows were appearing at the Hippodrome. Two fans arrived bringing pots of Cliff's favourite jam. The security staff would not allow them into Cliff's dressing room but suggested I went as I was in uniform. Cliff was very pleasant to talk to and was pleased with his gifts.
