Yarlington Match Lake's peg 25 lived up to its reputation as being a flyer when it came up with its second win in a week during the Avon Angling Midweek Open fished at Cider Farm Lakes, Lympsham.

Taking full advantage was Bristol's Tony Rixon, who caught early fish with an 8 mm pellet poled over a 4mm feed cupped-in at 13 metres.

And when the fish moved into the islands' gap, Rixon followed. He added two pole section, fished a 6mm hookbait shallow and by switching between the two swims, bagged 67 carp totalling 159-9-0.

Second was Rod Wootten, who poled a 6mm soft pellet at full depth and over a 4mm feed to tempt 93-3-0 of carp to almost 4-0-0.

Results - Overall: 1, Tony Rixon (Avon Angling Mosella) 159-9-0, peg 25; 2, Rod Wootten 93-3-0, peg 46; 3, Derek Cullip 90-6-0, peg 11; 4, Chris Davies 71-10-0, peg 41; 5, Eddie Wynne 57-1-0, peg 54; 6, John Dursley 52-7-0, peg 22. Silverfish: Matt Tomes 7-9-0.

PAUL Foxhall clinched victory with a 41-carp catch totalling 90-15-0 in the Carpenters Arms 2,000 AC match, fished at Cider Farm Lakes.

The club's publicity officer poled soft pellet at 12 metres to the island off peg 29 and caught carp weighing between 1 and 3lb from the off.

The nearest pursuer was Chris Woolley, who poled slime paste to the bottom of the island shelf at 10 metres off peg 25 for a 32-carp catch weighing 79-4-0.

A gin-clear, slow flowing Bristol Avon combined with gale force winds to make presentation difficult and weights plummeted in the Pucklechurch AS match fished at Newbridge near Bath.

The top weight was taken by angling coach Kevin Dicks who poled caster and worm close-in at peg 56 to tempt 6-10-0 of perch and roach.

Jeff Agius beat Jerry Pocock to second place by just 6oz. Agius poled maggot at peg 5 in the little field to tempt 5-10-0 of roach while Pocock used a waggler and caster to extract 5-4-0 of roach from peg 24.

Result: 1, Kevin Dicks (Sensas Bathampton Avon Aquatics) 6-10-0, peg 56; 2, Jeff Agius 5-10-0, peg 5; 3, Jerry Pocock 5-4-0, peg 24; 4, Martin Rayet (Preston Innovations Thatchers) 3-12-0, peg 32; 5, Mike Snudden 3-2-0, peg 36.
