Football fans can now shoot and score past the goalkeeping talents of Bristol's most famous sons in an online game.

'Score for Bristol' was commissioned by the Bristol 2018 bid team to encourage people to back Bristol's bid to be a host city for the World Cup in 2018.

The penalty shoot-out game allows you to choose one of five Bristolian goalies – Cary Grant, Brunel, Banksy, Blackbeard or real-life Bristol bid backer Justin Lee Collins.

After each shot a voice tells the player how you did in fluent Brizzle, whether your shots have been "proper job", "gert lush" or ones your grandmother could have saved.

The goals, which change along with the keepers, feature some much-loved sites from across Bristol such as the Suspension Bridge, Cabot Tower and hot air balloons.

At the end of each game a link appears to go to the official Bristol2018.net website – where people can register their support for Bristol's bid.

Stephen Wray, project director for Bristol 2018, said: "This game is great fun and highlights Bristol's bid to host the 2018 World Cup.

"We know thousands of Bristolians are behind us, but to convince England 2018 we need them all to sign up and back the bid - either online at Bristol2018.net or by texting BRISTOL to 62018. I hope the game will take off and by forwarding it on, more and more people will back Bristol."
