PUPILS at Mangotsfield School were encouraged to be part of the technological revolution when they were visited by a director from the Bristol and Bath Science Park.

The park's innovation centre director, Richard Pitkin, gave a keynote speech at the school's annual celebration of achievement evening.

Mr Pitkin, who recently became a governor at the school, congratulated students and said: "The technological advances that have occurred in these students' lifetimes are huge – and new developments are happening every day. Technologies like clothing that can answer phones and robots that will do the housework aren't just the stuff of sci-fi films but products currently in development.

"With its strength in innovation and technology, Bristol is a great place to get in on the action and these students are living and studying in one of the country's best regions for careers in the technology sector."

The school's head teacher, Richard Badley, said: "As an engineering and science college, Mangotsfield keeps pace with the changes and innovations in the wider world and we are always looking to encourage wider experience and involvement on our governing body. It is important to inspire young people today and having Richard representing the governors helps to highlight the world of science and innovation; both potential career paths for our students."
