THEY may never get the chance to see them but pupils and staff at a school and nursery in Jamaica have sent a donation to keep Thornbury's Christmas lights shining.

Volunteers who are responsible for the festive display were stunned to receive a gift of £110 from the Seaview Primary School and the Queensbury Early Learning Centre in St Elizabeth.

It had come from the Caribbean to South Gloucestershire via Mike Daniels, of Thornbury, whose partner comes from Jamaica. He often visits and helps provide books and other materials for the children, whose schools are in a poor part of the country.

In thanks for what he has done, the children collect small coins through the year and give the cash to Mr Daniels for good causes.
