School presented with prestigious healthy living award
A SCHOOL has been presented with a prestigious healthy living award for its work promoting healthier lifestyles for children.
St Katherine's School in Pill has been awarded South West Healthy Schools Plus status, as part of an initiative to encourage children to improve their diet and lifestyle.
The school, is a member of the Food for Life Partnership, which aims to transform the content of school meals and encourage families to cook and grow food together.
Pupils have had trips to local farms to learn about organic food and farming and each year the school organises a week-long food festival, including workshops by professional chefs and attended by pupils and local residents.
St Katherine's assistant head teacher, Hayden Southon, who co-ordinates the healthy living initiative at the school, said: "We spent time talking to students to find out what they wanted, so that activities could be tailored to their interests and needs."
St Katherine's was also the first secondary school in the country to receive the Food for Life Gold award.
