School in finals
WRITHLINGTON School Golf Academy, based at Farrington Golf and Country Club, have qualified for the National Intercollegiate Tour national finals at the first attempt.
The team battled through five rounds of regional events, taking 2,161 shots to beat Gloucestershire's Hartpury College C into second place by just one. Writhlington won two of the first three events before a disappointing fourth place at the Players Club in February.
The 27-hole national final takes place at Kings Norton Golf Club on May 2. Josh Hilleard, Will Hobbs and Michaela Chivers. who are all Farrington members, were among the top ten individual players over the five tournaments and qualified for the individual national event at Hawkstone Park the following week.
Left-hander Hilleard won the Somerset order of merit last year and is a regular in the county under-18 team.
