A BUS company is planning to use coaches with seat belts to take children to and from school to improve safety.

Eurotaxis was criticised by parents after their two daughters were ordered off a double decker collecting children at St Katherine's School in Pill last week.

The driver asked Lauren Harrison, 12, and her friend, Rhiannon Beail, 11, to get off the double decker because it was overcrowded.

There was another bus there but Lauren and Rhiannon were not given their return tickets back so went back into the school to ask a teacher to sort out the problem.

Lauren's father had to collect the girls himself.

Now Tony Lavoie, business development manager of Eurotaxis, has said the company is in discussions with the school about using single decker coaches with seat belts instead of the double deckers from September this year.

He said this would improve passenger safety and enable the company to operate within the complex legislation.

Hundreds of children from Bristol travel by bus to the North Somerset secondary school every day, paying £3 for a return ticket.

Previous restrictions placed on the operator by the traffic commissioner have now been lifted and Eurotaxis are able to run an unlimited number of services.
