“Can somebody please explain the apparently dodgy arithmetic in this article? The children due to start school in September 2013 appear to be only 4 years old. I can't believe this! Surely children should be starting school in the September following their fifth birthday as I did in 1949. I think this is still the legal requirement, so either the arithmetic is wrong or we're now starting kids a year earlier than is either necessary or used to be the case. If the latter is the case, then it would explain a great deal about our children compared with those of our European neighbours - we're taking them away from their parents too soon!”
