Salisbury hit self-destruct button
Kidderminster Harriers 3 Salisbury City 2: Two own-goals saw the Whites go down at high-flying Kidderminster Harriers, but after a stirring second-half performance, they deserved a point.
Manager Nick Holmes said: "I was very proud of my players in the second half, but I wasn't too happy after the first, when I thought we were a disaster waiting to happen.
"Then we came out and played very well and created much the better chances in the second half, but didn't get the little bit of luck that could have allowed us to snatch an equaliser.
"If you go down fighting like that it makes you feel a little bit better about it."
Harriers might have been four or five up at the break, but a combination of misses from Matt Barnes-Homer and Justin Richards, together with some brave goalkeeping from James Bittner, prevented a first-half pasting. A Jon Bass own-goal on seven minutes and a second from Matt Barnes–Homer on 29 seemed to make it "game over".
A well-constructed Charlie Griffin goal just before the interval gave the Whites a lifeline, and although they fell 3-1 behind to an unfortunate own-goal from Scott Bartlett on 54 minutes, they bounced back, with Harriers wilting under tremendous pressure.
Djoumin Sangare and Brian Dutton both went close before Dutton got Salisbury's second with a good finish after superb work by Danny Webb and Griffin to put Kidderminster on the ropes. The Whites continued to press but ran out of time to get a battling point.
